Responsibilities

The Perinatal Ultrasound Technologist will carefully screen for prenatal detection and diagnosis of anomalies so the perinatologist can offer final recommendations that potentially improve the outcome of the patient’s pregnancy. In addition to performing accurate, high quality ultrasound exams, the perinatal sonographer must have a firm knowledge of physiology and anatomy relevant to obstetrics. The ultrasound technologist will use leading edge technology and be willing to learn new best practices relatable to the field.

  • Collects pertinent medical information to identify reason for examination and potential contraindications.
  • Explains procedure and obtains consent for treatment.
  • Selects proper technical factors to achieve a high level genetic sonogram including biophysical profile with dopplers, when applicable.
  • Observes image and modifies equipment parameters as necessary to obtain optimal image.
  • Reviews images with a physician to ensure that all neonatal anatomy is visualized.
  • Assists physicians with amniocentesis, CVS, and in utero transfusions, practicing sterile technique as required.
  • Assembles records for interpretation by physician.
  • Enters all pertinent ultrasound information into a reporting package
  • Performs minor maintenance (i.e. erase hard drive) on ultrasound equipment.  Refers major problems to appropriate supervisor.
  • Assists in orienting and training personnel.

Qualifications

REQUIRED 

  1. Registered in OB/GYN by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) or registry‑eligible.
  2. Certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

PREFERRED 

 

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
  2. Prior experience in OB/GYN ultrasound.
