Overview

Provides nursing assistance and patient care to provide for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients.  Assists physicians/physician assistants/nurse practitioners in medical office setting.  Performs a variety of patient care duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team as delegated by physician.  Specific duties and responsibilities assigned to the individual will be determined by the supervising physician(s), clinical staff and Practice Coordinator after competency is established.

Responsibilities

  1. Interviews patient and records patient medical history and specific information related reason for visit. Prepares patient for examination by performing and recording preliminary vitals such as blood pressure, temperature, weight. 
  2. Reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions or adverse reactions to physician. Measures and records accurate vital signs.
  3. Prepare exam and treatment rooms. Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, sterilizing instruments as needed.
  4. Assists physicians and nurses with physical examination and treatments, and performs surgical preps and simple dressing changes.
  5. Provides procedures and treatments as delegated by physician.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. Graduate of Medical Assistant program or Graduate of a U.S. Military Medic course or years of experience equivalent to completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or U.S. Military Medic course.
  2. At least 1 year of experience.
  3. Expertise in ambulatory/physician office practice flow and activities; specialty specific disease processes and conditions; in-office procedures, and patient education.
  4. Current BLS card (CPR).
  5. Color vision acuity is required to safely perform the duties of this position if such duties are related to lab duties.
  6. All applicants must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening Test if such duties of this position are related to lab duties.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. Certified as Medical Assistant.
