Responsibilities

The Anchor Nurse III coordinates daily activities and distribution of work in assigned nursery.  This position serves as a resource to Family Center Care nurse regarding the care of the infant.

  • Provides primary care provider to border babies.
  • Responsible for observation of babies while in nursery.
  • Assists primary RN/Physicians in special procedures as needed (blood cultures, diagnostic workups, LP’s, etc.).
  • Serves as resource to primary RN/Physicians.
  • Collaborates with Charge Nurse throughout each shift.
  • Collaborates with primary FCC Team regarding work assignments (normal routine care is responsibility of primary FCC Team).
  • Assists with admission and discharge process as needed.
  • Assures circumcision pre-op checklist is completed accurately.
  • Assists primary FCC Team with circumcisions.
  • Oversees circumcision babies immediately post-procedure.
  • Assures appropriate equipment and adequate supplies in nursery area.
  • Assures nursery area is compliant with Infection Control policies.
  • Verifies competency of unit staff – annually and ongoing.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff.
  • Participants in staff meetings and other hospital committees as needed.
  • Provides constructive feedback regarding competency of unit staff – annually and ongoing.
  • Demonstrates service excellence behaviors routinely in encounters with all customers, i.e., coworkers, patients, visitors, physicians, ancillary staff, etc.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: 1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations. 2. Minimum of 2 years' full-time experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training in Level I, II or III nursery; newborn; NICU and/or Mother/Baby units. 3. Certified in Neonatal Resuscitation 4. Newborn admission assessment experience 5. Proof of annual continuing education credits and/or hours in newborn care; minimum of 16 hours/credits within the past 2 years. 6. Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS). 7. Please refer to the specific clinical unit for additional education, competencies and/or certifications required as a condition of employment. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED: 1. BSN degree in Nursing preferred 2. National Certification in Clinical Specialty preferred 3. Other preferred RN attributes are unit specific. Please refer to the specific clinical unit.
