Under general supervision, and with medical consultation and direction, performs physical, psycho-social assessment; establishes medical diagnosis; orders and evaluate diagnostic tests; manages follow up care; does other related work as required. Responsibilities include performing physical examinations, developing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting lab tests and results, along with providing preventative healthcare and counseling.
- Northside Cardiac Surgery is seeking a Surgical Physician Assistant to join our growing surgical APP team. The team consists of 4 Cardiac Surgeons and 6 Cardiac Surgery PA’s. Incoming PA will be involved with complex CV surgical cases as part of a team of highly specialized physicians and assistants.
- Rounding primarily in the CVICU
- Endoscopic Vein & Radial Artery harvest using the Maquet and or Terumo systems
- First assistant as needed: cases include CABG, aortic and mitral valve repair/replacement, ECMO Insertion
- Perform procedures such as central line placement, arterial line placement and chest tube placement.
- Conducts patient interviews and documents patient histories, psychosocial histories, health status and medical problems or potential problems.
- Under the direction of a physician, performs physical examinations and specialized diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, aortic surgery, VATS, placement and management of chest tubes wound suturing and dressing changes.
- Orders, schedules and/or performs laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, pregnancy and blood tests, and x-rays.
- Communicates necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled procedures to patient.
- In collaboration with physician, arranges for consultations with or referrals to other medical professional or community services.
- Educates patient on health habits, self-examinations, behavior management, need for follow-up assessments/treatments, at home medical care, medication and other issues related to medical or health problems.
- Maintains and updates current, accurate patient records including medical assessment, interventions, and evaluations.
- Participates in the care and medical decision making for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patients.
