Responsibilities

Northside Hospital Cancer Institute (NHCI) is searching for a credentialed cancer registrar who will gather diagnostic & treatment information from outside facilities, support registry tasks associated with patient treatment summaries, and track survivorship visits for accreditation purposes. They will also assist with processing data requests from other hospital registries.

 

The candidate will:

  • Collect diagnostic and treatment information from physician offices and outside facilities via HIPAA compliant processes. Conduct phone calls and generates letters to physicians and outside facilities as needed. Provide abstractors  with information necessary to complete full (non-concurrent) abstracts. Updates information when appropriate.
  • Coordinate & perform casefinding from a variety of sources to identify reportable cases for abstracting purposes across all Northside facilities, including but not limited to electronic medical records, radiation therapy transcription and pathology report review.
  • Process data requests from outside hospital registries in accordance with HIPAA.

Required: Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential and/or (formerly known as) Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential from the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)

Qualifications

REQUIRED

 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential and/or (formerly known as) Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential from the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)
  3. 1 Year experience in cancer registry field or similar area.
  4. Experience using computer data base systems.
  5. Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  6. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

PREFERRED

 

  1. B.S. degree in Health Sciences, Health Information Management, or related discipline.
  2. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or other similar certification.
