Responsibilities

Provides diabetes nutrition education activities for inpatients, outpatients, and individuals and groups of patients with diabetes ranging in age from adolescence to adulthood. Coordinates the diabetes education plan with other team members, and acts as liaison to the primary nurse and physician.  Serves as resource to other health professionals in the specified area of expertise for the purposes of staff development, patient care delivery, and Quality Improvement.  Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and weekend call.  Must complete a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in diabetes and education principles during initiation of hire and annually.

* The candidate must be open to floating to other locations at least twice a month.

* We have current openings at our Forsyth and Gwinnett locations. 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training.
  3. Minimum of one (1) year experience in Diabetes Patient Care or patient education
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  5. Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles.
  7. Obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) designation within two (2) years of hire.
  8. Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  9. Other REQUIRED cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications (ACLS, NALS, PALS, etc.) are unit specific. Please refer to the specific clinical unit.
  10. Please refer to the specific clinical unit for additional education, competencies and/or certification required as a condition of employment.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:

  1. BSN degree preferred.
  2. National Certification as Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) preferred.
  3. Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  4. Proficient with use of virtual applications.
  5. Other preferred RN attributes are unit specific. Please refer to the specific clinical unit.
