Responsibilities

The Registered Professional Nurse at Northside Hospital independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines, and in accordance with the scope of practice as defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.

1.      Makes pre-procedure phone calls to explain procedure, provide instructions, obtain information, and as otherwise necessary.

2.      Dispenses procedure medication to technologist, monitors expiration dates and refrigeration temperatures, according to established protocols. 

3.      Reviews and explains procedure(s) to patients and family and provides pre-procedure instructions; monitors patients post-procedure and provides post-procedure care and gives post-procedure instructions.

4.      Provides post-procedure follow-up call to patient to assess condition, answer questions and review pathology reports as needed.

5.      Obtains pathology reports in a timely manner; contacts surgeon or referring physician with results and contacts patients with results as needed.

6.      Works closely with Breast Health Coordinator to facilitate patient care and support as necessary.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  2. Licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.
  3. Must hold Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:

  1. BSN degree
  2. Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
  3. Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units.
  4. Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
