Responsibilities

Directs and supervises the Pulmonary Function Lab and Respiratory Care activities on assigned shift. May perform the duties of a Respiratory Therapist and work with neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

 

RIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assigns and monitors work; manages resources in an ongoing manner to optimize human resource consumption to include efficient use of additional staff, overtime and resource personnel.
  2. Participates in departmental budget by continually monitoring and adjusting staffing to meet workload requirements; generates and analyzes productivity reports to justify staffing adjustments; and assesses needs for hiring of additional staff.
  3. Interviews, hires, and trains staff; acts as a clinical resource; assists staff in setting and achieving professional goals.
  4. Participates in staff education, competency assessment and performance evaluations.
  5. Counsels and disciplines staff as needed; places employees on performance plans and monitors progress; disciplines to the point of termination if necessary.
  6. Responsible for the daily and on-going scheduling of staff.
  7. Handles customer service complaints within area; may resolve issues with minimal assistance.
  8. Maintains rapport with physicians and other hospital employees; contacts physician when test results or patient’s condition warrants a change.
  9. Ensures proper availability and working condition of life support equipment and blood gas analyzers; may maintains records for quality assurance.
  10. Coordinates disaster response for assigned clinical areas.
  11. May participate in CQI; may represent the Respiratory Care department on hospital committees.
  12. Actively participates in the Service Excellence program; trains and guides staff in accordance with this program.
  13. Ensures departmental staff records are in accordance with JCAHO standards.
  14. Performs duties of Level II ,III or Lead therapist as needed.
  15. May performs fiberoptic bronchoscopies and assist in staff training of proper technique.
  16. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  1. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  2. Three years of experience as Respiratory Therapist.
  3. Must be BCLS certified and ACLS certified if primary duties are for adult patients.
  4. Must be BCLS and NRP certified if primary duties are NICU. NRP instructor for NICU only supervisor.
  5. Credentials as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) from Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners.
  6. NICU Supervisor must conduct routine and complex EEG testing in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  7. Adult Supervisors must be able to perform bedside bronchoscopies. Note: As of May 27, 2018, employees currently in the Respiratory Care Clinical Supervisor role are considered grandfathered and are therefore not required to meet the ACLS certification requirements of this job. Anyone applying for Respiratory Care Clinical Supervisor after of May 27, 2018 must meet the established requirements.
