Directs and supervises the Pulmonary Function Lab and Respiratory Care activities on assigned shift. May perform the duties of a Respiratory Therapist and work with neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
RIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assigns and monitors work; manages resources in an ongoing manner to optimize human resource consumption to include efficient use of additional staff, overtime and resource personnel.
- Participates in departmental budget by continually monitoring and adjusting staffing to meet workload requirements; generates and analyzes productivity reports to justify staffing adjustments; and assesses needs for hiring of additional staff.
- Interviews, hires, and trains staff; acts as a clinical resource; assists staff in setting and achieving professional goals.
- Participates in staff education, competency assessment and performance evaluations.
- Counsels and disciplines staff as needed; places employees on performance plans and monitors progress; disciplines to the point of termination if necessary.
- Responsible for the daily and on-going scheduling of staff.
- Handles customer service complaints within area; may resolve issues with minimal assistance.
- Maintains rapport with physicians and other hospital employees; contacts physician when test results or patient’s condition warrants a change.
- Ensures proper availability and working condition of life support equipment and blood gas analyzers; may maintains records for quality assurance.
- Coordinates disaster response for assigned clinical areas.
- May participate in CQI; may represent the Respiratory Care department on hospital committees.
- Actively participates in the Service Excellence program; trains and guides staff in accordance with this program.
- Ensures departmental staff records are in accordance with JCAHO standards.
- Performs duties of Level II ,III or Lead therapist as needed.
- May performs fiberoptic bronchoscopies and assist in staff training of proper technique.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.
