Responsibilities

In the Progressive Cardiac Care Unit (PCCU), you will work with patients with Cardiac and Vascular disease, some requiring an intermediate level of care. We care for patients with congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarcts (STEMI, NSTEMI), cardiac dysrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, pulmonary edema, amputations, etc. Patients require many interventions on this unit including, echocardiogram, nuclear studies, pacemakers, percutaneous coronary intervention, vascular surgery, cardioversion and cath lab procedures. On this unit, you will become an expert at interpreting cardiac rhythms and skilled in drip titration, and post cath interventions such as TR Bands and Femoral Sheath pulls. Our nurses are trained in ACLS, NIHSS and responds to code blue events throughout the hospital.

 

Coordinates the development and implementation of education and training programs to enhance, promote, and maintain high standards of staff professional growth in providing quality patient care. Serves as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice. Administers staff development programs through needs assessment and implements education and training programs for clinical staff. Functions in a leadership role as a clinical expert. Develops and implements training and maintains established standards of care through quality improvement activities. Maintains unit-specific quality, accreditation, and clinical competency programs. Responsibilities involve providing staff instruction on the collection of data, assisting with the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, and serving as a resource to departmental and other hospital staff.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  2. Licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.
  3. Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
  4. Must hold Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

  

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:

  1. BSN degree
  2. Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units.
  3. Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
