Responsibilities

Assists Pharmacist in filling, compounding, and dispensing physician orders. Performs various technical duties involved with the handling, packaging, and delivery of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Tech II demonstrates proficiency to practice in two (2) or more specific pharmacy function areas (production/distribution, oncology, inventory management, narcotics, nursery, surgery, compounding and home care/outpatient). Provides patient care services to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. 

 

Retail Pharmacy Functions

  1. Matches and selects proper brand and generic pharmaceuticals as identified by prescription label.
  2. Prepares patient prescriptions which involves counting, weighing, measuring, and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  3. Reconciles payments, charges, and third party claims; reconciles cash register tape and drawer and makes bank deposit.
  4. Assists in completion of third party plan - provider contract enrollment.
  5. Assists with development of monthly and other reports; researches and resolves problems as necessary.
  6. Assists with procurement and receipt of pharmaceuticals; resolves problems with products and vendors as necessary.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. One of the following:
    1. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Georgia
    2. Current licensure as a Pharmacy Intern in the State of Georgia
  3. Experience as a:
    1. Pharmacy Technician I for a minimum of one (1) year at Northside Hospital OR

    2. Technician hired from outside the Northside System with one year of pharmacy related experience.

  4. Non-certified technicians will have a maximum of two (2) years from their date of hire or change of status to a pharmacy technician job class at Northside Hospital to successfully achieve certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
    1. Pharmacy students with Georgia Board of Pharmacy Intern License are exempt from needing certification.
