Responsibilities

  PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs all duties of a Midwife Nurse, as applicable.

 

  1. Serves as primary communication liaison between midwife staff and physicians, other providers and hospital administration.

 

  1. In collaboration with medical staff, designs advanced practice protocols for specific patient populations. Oversees compliance with approved protocols in collaboration with Medical Director.

 

  1. Prepares and monitors midwife staff schedule, makes adjustments to schedule and communicates changes to appropriate personnel as needed.

 

  1. Collaborates with service line and department leadership regarding clinical and operational issues and improvements.

 

  1. Collaborates with service line and department education teams to coordinate participation of mid-level staff in continuing education activities, in services, internships, and other education and training programs.

 

  1. Oversees and coordinates clinical orientation for new employees. Oversees and coordinates continuing competency, and optimal professional development for the midwife team. Collaborates with Director or assigned supervisor to ensure completion and documentation of midwife initial and annual education and required competencies.

 

  1. Recruits, hires, orients, and evaluates performance, in conjunction with Medical Director or supervising physician, of midwifes to assure that department is staffed with individuals who reflect behavior and performance consistent with the hospital's Mission and Values statement.

 

  1. Makes midwife workflow decisions based on needs of the department and collaboration with Medical Director. May recommend staffing pattern changes based on department needs.

 

  1. Communicates regularly with department midwives to keep them abreast of information which will assist in the safe and effective performance of their jobs and to create an understanding of hospital‑wide performance and direction.

 

  1. Represents midwife staff at appropriate meetings and on appropriate committees, assigning delegates when necessary.

 

  1. Participates in the department Quality Improvement activities.

 

  1. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

 KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AN ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. Refer to the Medical Staff Guidelines for certifications and credentialing applicable to the position of midwife.
  2. Demonstrated ability to set priorities, make appropriate clinical and supervisory decisions and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  3. Demonstrated ability to educate others and serve as a positive change agent.
  4. Must possess good problem solving skills.
  5. Effective analytical and organization skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
  6. Leadership skills to direct others toward the successful treatment of patients.
  7. Ability to assist staff in times of crisis or emergency.

  9. MSN Required
  10. 3 years of nursing experience
  11. Must have current or unrestricted licensure in the state of Georgia as an advanced practice nurse. Current certification by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
  12. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, clinical practice standards, normal maternal / fetal growth and development, and requirements of nurse midwifery practice.
  13. Able to independently seek out resources and solve complex problems.
  14. Able to communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
  15. Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up.
  16. Able to use fine motor skills.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. 1 year leadership experience
