Performs electroneurodiagnostic tests on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients of including EEG (electroencephalogram) and Evoked Potential tests, to assist in the diagnosis of various brain disorders.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consults with physicians and checks patient's history to determine possible areas of brain disorder.
- Explains procedure to patient and places electrodes in appropriate cranial areas.
- Conducts routine and complex EEG tests in accordance with standard operating procedures. May introduce visual, auditory, or other stimuli to measure brain wave reactions.
- Performs evoked potential and brain mapping studies as assigned.
- Scores and prepares records for physician interpretation. Provides detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other emergency situations.
- Assists physicians during intraoperative monitoring of patients and gives constant feedback concerning the patient's sensory system functioning. Also assists physicians with electromyogram and nerve conduction studies.
- Performs maintenance and minor repair of equipment. Reports need for major repairs to immediate supervisor.
- Prepares charge slips and enters into computer system to ensure proper billing of patients.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.
