Responsibilities

Responsible for coordination of the Radiology Department's Quality Improvement/CQI program including ACR, FDA regulatory agencies and other projects as assigned. 

 

Establishes and monitors compliance with Quality & Patient Safety regulations.  Responsible for Northside’s Radiology Information System (RIS) including exam updates, new department builds, printer configuration, and integrated testing. 

 

Develops and provides training to Radiology staff and Radiologists. 

 

Manages projects to implement new technology systems supporting Radiology operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Administers and monitors the enterprise-wide lead tracking program at all Northside Hospital locations for clinical departments that utilize protective lead shielding including the acquired physician practices. Provides BAIMS system training to users.  Assists areas with annual testing of lead aprons.
  2. Maintains and administers multiple technology platforms supporting Radiology operations – STAR Radiology (RIS), PowerScribe360, Montage, PowerShare, Radimetrics, BAIMS, and EMDAT. Develops training materials, system downtime procedures, and trains personnel including Radiology staff and Radiologists.
  3. Administers the radiation badge monitoring program for all Northside personnel (Radiology and non-Radiology) that come in contact with radiation-emitting equipment.
  4. Conducts on-site audits at ~60 Radiology imaging locations to ensure their compliance with JCAHO standards. This requires frequent travel to the geographically dispersed imaging centers.  Identifies areas for improvement and oversees action plans to address.
  5. Coordinates continuous readiness program to ensure compliance with polices & procedures, Quality & Patient Safety standards (including area walk-throughs, etc.), and regulatory agencies.
  6. Responsible for STAR STI testing and integrated testing for new software releases.
  7. Serves as key point of contact for transcription services. Provides information to transcription vendor for billing purposes.
  8. Routinely reviews and coordinates changes to CPT coding for radiology exams.
  9. Assists Scheduling/Precertification Coordinator with clinical aspects of protocols.
  10. Plans, develops, and ensures provision of educational in-services for Radiology personnel related to policy and procedures and/or new programs, equipment, etc. Coordinates this with the modality supervisors.
  11. Maintains the Radiology department’s Policies and Procedures manual.
  12. Assists nursing coordinator and QI department with Medical staff QI as needed.
  13. Supports system-wide Radiology performance indicator measurement, assessment, and improvement program (i.e. KRA, KPI, PI).
  14. Establishes calendar and monitors compliance with Quality & Patient Safety requirements.
  15. Performs STAR builds for new modalities and facilities. Sets up new users in STAR and updates STAR user menus.
  16. Reviews and maintains Charge Master in STAR. Maintains SIM items in STAR database.
  17. Compiles Press Ganey survey patient satisfaction results for all Radiology locations.
  18. Coordinates all changes to Medical Record forms for all Radiology imaging locations.
  19. Supports preparation of semi-annual Quality & Patient Safety reports and Strategic Plan updates.
  20. Maintains standardized discharge instructions and patient education materials across all Radiology locations.
  21. Interfaces with the Hospital-wide Quality & Patient Safety program to ensure policies are appropriate, standards are maintained, and educational needs are met by Radiology staff.
  22. Plans, develops, and ensures provision of documentation to ensure that all employees are competent in required job skills. Works with modality supervisors to ensure competency documentation is maintained on all employees in the Radiology system.
  23. Orients and trains new-hires on RIS and QI functions.
  24. Leads the design and implementation of projects including process re-design, technology applications, and new processes.
  25. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

Qualifications

  1. Completion of a two year AMA approved course in Radiologic Technology.
  2. Good written and oral communication skills.
  3. Four (4) years experience in Radiology.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Improvement programs, education and techniques for radiology.

Preferred:

  1. Bachelor's degree or Associate Degree in business, radiology, or education.
  2. Knowledge of computer systems/RIS. Previous experience using Microsoft Excel.
  3. Two (2) years experience in facilitating a Quality Improvement program.
